1.5 Styles and functions of management
This article is very useful for me, because my role as a coordinator. The first part of the article talks about howimportant is organization for an English program. It talks about a model of organization is useful and but there are different models, that a coordinator adopts base on his/her view, way of thinkingetc.
There is one theory proposed by McGregor that is called “Theory X” that I absolutely disagree on that. Thinking of PAL which is our program there inst any point that could say what is PALmanagement about. For example it says that “Most people are not ambitious, have little desire for responsibility, and prefer to be direct” I know my team at PAL, and I’m sure that we are very ambits that’swhy we establish new rules, new objective and new events. Maybe we will fail or succeed but we try and this is important. One of the point that I really like on the X theory the one that talks about“most people must be closely controlled and often concern to achieve organizational objectives” and it is true, I had to push sometime my team in order to have things done and for that theory Y emphasizesour objectives at PAL.
Be a coordinator for me was something new, now the article set the main objective and activities that managers should do, and I can say that some of them I do and others I justfail. I’m working on my own goals, and improving my mistakes. Some of the activities that a manager must have are:
* Planning work
* Organizing
* Directing
* Controlling

Absolutelya manager can’t do everything and this something that learnt a little late which is the delegation of responsilities. It is difficult and the article defines it as an art. Delegation involvesresponsibility, awareness and authority.
