The term anorexia is used in medicine to describe the loss of appetite or poor appetite and may occur in very different circumstances, such as feverish, and gastrointestinalgeneral illness or simply in temporary situations of everyday life. Anorexia is therefore a symptom that can occur in many diseases and not a disease itself.
Anorexia nervosa. Anorexia nervosa incontrast, is not a symptom but a disease characterized by a specific self-induced weight loss accompanied by a distortion of body image and can have serious consequences for the health of thesuffererThere are two types of anorexia nervosa according to DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders):
Restrictive anorexia nervosa: the patient is characterized by attempts to reduce weightby diet and physical exercise. No self-induced vomiting or use of drugs to accelerate the action of the diet
Anorexia nervosa: In addition to diet and exercise, those affected by this form isself-induced vomiting, usually try to hide it so no one knows. Also consume several medications that can supposedly help with weight loss
Anorexia nervosa in an eating disorder that involves a loss ofweight caused by the patient himself can lead to a state of starvation, ie a sharp reduction in the nutrients, vitamins and energy intake. The term anorexia is Greek a-/an- (negation) + orexis (appetite,hunger, desire).
