Central America
Central America is the central geographic region of the Americas, which consists 7 countries: Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama. CentralAmerica has an area of 524 000 km2 and the population approximate 41 739 000. As a result of our clients request this project will focus on the following countries: Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras andNicaragua.
The company is interested in Central America, since it is getting more and more important as producer of textiles and it is producing for North America and the rest of the world. Otherreasons to expand in Central America are because of the low labour cost and a weak differentiated economic structure.
In Central America the textile and clothing sector, known as maquila, is the mostimportant industrial export sector. Textile industry raised the volume of manufactured export (see graph below) as well as the employment generated.
The charts below illustrate exports information of ElSalvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Guatemala is the most exporter country in Central America with share in the world total exports 0,06. Manufactures play the major role in exports almostin all the countries. Exception is Nicaragua that the main exported are agricultural products 78,5% of all exports and the textile exports is only 6,3% in total export. Undisputed exported country ofall selected nations is United States. (Resources of all charts WTO)
