ACTOPAN
Actopan, Otomi origin derived from "Atoctli" meaning "land thick, moist and fertile" and "Pan", which is "at or above", make up the name of the town. So with such roots form Actopan andunderstood as "land thick, moist and fertile."
Actopan The current name is not the correct name of the town, at least not the original, which is Atocpan that some degeneration in the use of languageunderwent a change in its structure.
Flora
The flora in the township has a vegetation consists mainly of thorny bushes and unarmed, grasslands, maguey, maroons, cactus, mesquite, cactus plant, pitahayaand jasmine. There are some woods and pepper trees, oaks, acacias, ash and fir.
In the township, the diversity in its flora is contrasting, while in the bottom for the Mezquital Valley flora issparse and features semi, upper semi-humid regions and presents a flora mostly wooded forest.
Fauna
The animals belonging to this region, is composed mostly of species characteristic of semi-desertclimates, such as rabbits, squirrels, opossums, armadillos, bobcats, coyotes, hawks and rattlesnakes.
The existence of a soil and poor seasonal rains that occur in the Mezquital Valley, conducive to thepresence of coral snakes, scorpions, lizards, chameleons, millipedes, scorpions, tarantulas, spiders, crickets, grasshoppers, ants and pinacates.

The agricultural sector is a major source of employment for the majority of the population of this county, especially, communities, and engagedin field work proper.
Within its main production is cyclical crops maize, barley grain, beans, oats forage, fodder barley, zucchini, green pepper, turnip, tomato, forage grass, green bean, tomato,cauliflower, onion, cucumber and huanzontle.
