Birth of a corporate state

In chapter 10 from the book “A People's History of The United States” by Howard Zinn, Zinn describes a behind the scenes of the war between the people of the UnitedStates and the problems that the nation had besides civil war, it also talks about the important roles that The Anti-Rent movement and Dorr's Rebellion took during that period. He describes the abuse ofgovernment power by corporations and the efforts by workers to resist those abuses by going on strikes and creating group unions.
Some of the many common grievances that workers were leaving to seeduring that period were: poor working conditions, they were terrible, no safety standards, no minimum wage, child labor, long day working hours, and one meal a day . They were treated unfairly, theyworked long days for little pay, the factories were unsafe and dangerous. . Women and children were forced to work in the factories with horrible conditions to work and live. In the cotton mills,temperatures in the factories were intolerable. Working hours were usually 12 to 16 hours per day, 6 days a week, minimum wage did not exist. in the coal mines gas fumes, cave ins, and explosionshappened very often due to that most of the workers suffered from deformed limbs and lung problems. To Defend Themselves against unfair treats and poor working conditions workers went on strike and grouptogether forming unions. Unions were formed to argue for better wages and better work conditions.
Today things have changed a lot for workers, in other words is a completely different world of labor.Things have changed, there is a minimum wage and the average is 8 hours of work per day. But there are still a few things that not many workers agree with, that could be interpreted as unfair to thosewho have dangerous jobs, or are exposed to situations where accidents can occur any time.
