Cambio Climático Global a través del tiempo geológico

Resumen
La clave para entender el cambio climático global es primero entender cómofunciona,
para esto se tiene que conocer los diferentes ciclos y flujos de energía que se dan entre la
atmósfera, hidrósfera, criosfera, biosfera y geosfera. Así, para entender el clima en la actualidad y poder predecir la dirección de cambio del clima en el futuro es necesario saber
cómo ha sido el clima en el pasado y cuáles han sido los factores que han originado dichos
cambios.
LaPaleoclimatología es la ciencia que se encarga de estudiar el clima y el cambio climático
en el pasado. Se revisaron numerosos estudios acerca del cambio climático global en el
pasado geológico para contextualizarlos dentro de la dinámica terrestre, igualmente se
revisaron las reconstrucciones paleoclimáticas que han sido propuestas para los diferentes
periodos geológicos así como las probables causasque influyeron en el clima de estas eras.
De esto se obtuvo que los principales cambios en las diferentes eras fueron: en el Precámbrico un efecto invernadero, un calentamiento y posteriormente un enfriamiento total
durante la denominada “Snow Ball Earth”; en el Mesozoico al principio hubo un retorno
hacia climas cálidos y secos, posteriormente dominó un clima cálido pero húmedo; en elCenozoico el balance térmico de la Tierra caracterizado por un clima subtropical (cálido y
húmedo) se relacionó con la pérdida de calor que culminó con la edad glacial. Durante los
últimos 5,000 años los cambios climáticos no se realizan de modo uniforme y constante
sino que más bien avanzan con fuertes oscilaciones como periodos más calientes o más
fríos pero al final alcanzan un deterioro climáticorápido y absoluto.

Abstract
The key to understanding global climate change is first to understand how it works, for
this it is necessary to be aware of the different cycles and energy flows that occur between
the atmosphere, hydrosphere, cryosphere, biosphere and geosphere. Thus, in order tounderstand the present climate and predict the direction of climate change in the future,
we need to know how the weather has been in the past and what the factors that have
affected those changes were.
Paleoclimatology is the science that is responsible for studying climate and climate change
in the past. We reviewed some studies about global climate change in the geological
past to contextualizethem within the Earth’s dynamics, also were reviewed paleoclimatic

reconstructions that have been proposed for different geological periods and the causes
that probably influenced the climate ofthese ages. Principal climatic changes in the different
eras were: in the Precambrian a greenhouse warming and then a total cooling during the
so called “Snow Ball Earth”, in the Late Mesozoic there was a return to hot, dry climates
then dominated a warm but humid climate and in the Cenozoic the thermal balance of
the Earth was characterized by a subtropical climate (warm and humid), relatedwith the
loss of heat which led to the glacial age. During the past 5,000 years the climate changes
are not in a uniform and constant way if not moving forward with strong fluctuations as
warmer or colder periods but eventually reach a rapid and absolute climatic deterioration.
