Most unsuccessful CEOs stumble because of one simple, fatal shortcoming.
Most CEOs are highly intelligent, successful, dedicated, and veryhard workers who make incredible sacrifices for a company who becomes their life for about seven to eight years.
As some of the say “people first, strategy second”, a great CEO focuses on taking oneperson from the bottom and grow them until they become the perfect executive for the perfect job, creating with the human resource, a powerful competitive advantage for the company, having in theirhands extraordinary, complex and smart people.
It’s actually pretty simple to recognize which companies have encounter the correct CEO; they are follow by the employees, habits change, commitmentsare settled.
But, what are the reasons why these people fail? And most of it, why?
It’s easier to saying than doing. Some CEOs lack of power of execution for the strategies implemented. Some otherdoesn’t deliver to commitment or get just indecisive about the path to be follow. Another reason is to delay problems, instead of fixing them at the right time. And the most important one, the inabilityto deal with non-efficient subordinates.
There are a lot of fears going around their minds. Maybe to be seen as too controlling over people, facing constant changes in their market, or evenbeing afraid of having an strategy that might be kind of doomed.
Let me tell you another constant problem they have, and there is only one word for it, COO. The Chief Operational Chief, it’s adouble-edged sword; when the chemistry between them works, there can be miracles coming out of that duo; but when it doesn’t, trouble comes around. In any of the cases, being a so called “good or bad” CEO, theproblem can appear in the picture, the difference is in what action will be taken. Fire the COO or keeping him, it’s most likely predicting the future for the CEO too.
