Club America
91 years ago, the soccer world suffered a very drastic change, Club America, a leading team, a polemic team; the best team in the world was born to write their history and yourexcuses. How many glorious moments has America lived in 91 years? How many sentiments has the best team in the world provoked? How did America achieve love and hate at the same time? Why are there so manyrivalries against this yellow and blue team? Only 91 years passed for America to become the best team in the world. During all of this time, nationally and internationally respected coaches andplayers have passed creating the history of an important, polemic and loved team.
When I was born, I was born in love, in love of a team that dressed in yellow and blue. They wouldn’t win much, theywouldn’t get much done, but that didn’t matter because my love for this team was way more important. One 25 of April in 1999 a group of 5 fans full of illusion and ready to change the way peopleexpressed themselves in the bleachers of the stadium, stud in the northern lower section of the Azteca Stadium. Every game that passed more and more people would get intoxicated by the way these peoplewould chant and support their loved team, becoming after a few seasons one of the most feared cheer groups in Mexico, “La Monumental.”
The 80’s were the happiest years for Club America, America hadtotal domination of Mexican Football. They won five league titles , two “Campeon de Campeones” and finally one CONCACAF title. Due to their bright yellow uniform the team was called as the “Canarios”,but fans didn’t like this nickname journalists had given the team so the club’s administration decided to call the team “Las Aguilas del America”. Up to 2008 Club America has 33 championships,including 14 league titles, 6 Cup championships, 5 “Campeon de Campeones”, 5 CONCACAF titles, 2 Inter-American Cups, and1 “Copa Gigantes de CONCACAF”.
