Revenue Recognition
Our Company recognizesrevenue when title of our products is transferred to our bottling partners or
our customers.
Advertising Costs
Our Company expenses production costs of print, radio, television and otheradvertisements as of the first
date the advertisements take place. Advertising expenses included in selling, general and administrative
expenses were approximately $1.9 billion in 2003, approximately $1.8billion in 2002 and approximately
$2.0 billion in 2001. As of December 31, 2003 and 2002, advertising production costs of approximately
$190 million and $170 million, respectively, were recorded inprepaid expenses and other assets and in
noncurrent other assets in our balance sheets.
Stock-Based Compensation
Our Company currently sponsors stock option plans and restricted stock award plans.Refer to Note 13.
Prior to 2002, our Company accounted for those plans under the recognition and measurement provisions of
APB Opinion No. 25, ‘‘Accounting for Stock Issued to Employees’’ (‘‘APBNo. 25’’) and related interpretations.
No stock-based employee compensation expense for stock options was reflected in net income for the year
ended December 31, 2001, as all stock options grantedunder those plans had an exercise price equal to the fair
market value of the underlying common stock on the date of grant. Effective January 1, 2002, our Company
adopted the preferable fair value...
