Designer Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel, better known as Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel, was born in 1883, although she would later claim that her real date ofbirth was 1893, making her ten years younger.
Coco was born in the workhouse in the Loire Valley where her mother worked, although she asserted that she was born in Auvergne.
The youngChanel was sent to the orphanage of the Catholic monastery of Aubazine.
In 1920s she was known as an amazing business woman and fashion designer. She marked up the essence of the Roaring 20’s.This era was all about becoming someone and leaving the old you behind and to start a new life.
Chanel set the stage of fashion by creating a brand, a signature and a social buzz.
Shelooked at the necessity, needs and desire of women and designed her clothes around what women wanted.
Women wanted freedom & fashion had placed upon de constrains of society.
Coco Chanelredesigned the woman’s role, making them more beautiful as well as making them separate from the old and boring “nobody”.
Coco Chanel became the first designer to create loose women’sclothing use jersey, traditionally used for men’s underwear, creating a relaxed style for women ignoring the stiff corseted look of the time. They soon became very popular with clients, a post-wargeneration of women for whom the corseted restricted clothing seemed old-fashioned and impractical.
Chanel thought that using jewelry suited to her vision of the modern woman.
Chanel's Lookwas quickly adopted in Britain and the U.S. and has broadly been called the "flapper look". This look was defined by its "masculine" influence and it shapes the image of fashion during the1920’s and will always be linked to a wonderful designer as Coco Chanel.
