Codependency and emotional dependency among university students

For young adults attending college is a period of growing, maturing, anddecision making; but most importantly it is a period when students have to decide what they want for their future: choosing a major; friends that would last a life-time and the partner with the one theywill spend the rest of their life. Emotional dependency and codependency conducts among students during college years are very frequent, creating unhealthy bonds making it more difficult for them.It’s important to prevent and to make young adults aware about the codependency and the emotional dependency. Awareness campaigns should be done at the UDLAP to prevent destructive relationships amongyoung adults compounded by an emotional dependent and a codependent.
In this essay information will be provided about the importance of awareness campaigns that should be done at the UDLAP in orderto inform students on emotional dependency and codependency conditions and how to detect them.
These two terms have been broadly used to explain different behaviors, thoughts and feelings.According to Mental Health America (2010) “co-dependency is a learned behavior that can be passed down from one generation to another. It is an emotional and behavioral condition that affects an individual’sability to have a healthy, mutually satisfying relationship. It is also known as “relationship addiction” because people with codependency often form or maintain relationships that are one-sided,emotionally destructive and/or abusive (Mental Health America, 2010, para 1)”.
