The Dawn of Mesoamerica
The documentary the dawn of Mesoamerica by Carlos Fuentes is a documentary about the civilizations of Mesoamerica. It talks about how civilizations likeOlmecs, Mayas, etc. lived and interacted with each other. It explains their traditions, culture, politics, their lifestyle and their gods and how meaningful they were for them, and how they feedthemselves. It also attempts to explain and understand a little more about these cultures through their crafts, pyramids and paintings.
Mesoamerica included what is Mexico now andCentro America. Their climates were tropical, subtropical and there were a lot of mountains. The first major civilization in Mexico was the Olmec, they lived in the tropical lands of south centralMexico, that now is known as the states of Veracruz and Tabasco. This culture started in San Lorenzo, then they were in a place called La Venta and finally they moved to Tres Zapotes which was the lastone. The most recognized aspects of the Olmec civilization are the enormous helmeted heads, there have been found 10 in San Lorenzo where the archeologists said those ten are the most beautiful and moreperfect ones, and then they found 3 heads of La Venta and 3 more in Tres Zapotes. Also there are other monuments that are baby faces that represent a lot of artistic talent like the helmeted heads.They also made a lot of ceramics that used to store food or drink water. Other aspect of the Olmecs and all of the other civilizations was their gods. They all believe in gods, for them there was partof their life to do everything to make the gods happy, the most important god was the Olmec Dragon.
Another very important Mesoamerican civilization is the Maya; they lived inthe area of what is today Chiapas, Tabasco and Yucatan. They discovered the concept of zero before any other civilization in the world. The food was either obtained or produced, they were hunters,...
