Curfew in Puerto Rico for Children Under 18

In my opinion, establishing an obligatory curfew for children less than 18 years of age is a great solution for theirsafety. First of all, we can have them safely in their homes and keep them out of danger for that time of the night. Also, we can have fewer minors consuming alcohol anddrugs. As we can’t prevent the consumption of these two, we can lessen it. After doing my research, my opinion gains more strength. The statistics show proof of how oursociety will benefit of a curfew for children under 18.
In Puerto Rico there are almost half a million (489,404) teens between the ages of 10 to 17. That represents the13% of our population. 80 % of our teen boy’s deaths are from homicides, traffic accidents and tragic deaths. In 1999, a total of 274 boys were killed as for 69 teen girls.It is sad to see that 41% of those deaths are homicides. In other countries were they already established a mandatory curfew, these deaths are greatly less.
One ofthese countries is Spain; the death of teens by homicides is a shocking 1.1%. In Cali, were they implanted the mandatory curfew, the deaths by homicides descended a 25%only in one year. Another country, were we can see the benefits of implementing a curfew for teens, is Bogota. In Bogota these deaths descended in a year by a 58%.
Forsome reason, worth researching, the defenders of Human Rights have been the bigger oppositions on the Governments public hearing about implementing a mandatory curfew inPuerto Rico. The deaths of our teens are only increasing by the year. With the evidence seen here I greatly agree in implementing a mandatory curfew for our children.
