RESUMEN.
En este trabajo se presenta una nueva metodología para el diagnóstico de fallas, usando el análisis
de las ondas de esfuerzo que inducen impactos, grietas por esfuerzos, etc.
Para comprender la importancia del análisis de las ondas de esfuerzo, es necesario previamente
realizar una breve descripción del mantenimiento predictivo asícomo una introducción al análisis
de vibraciones. Posteriormente se presentan los problemas que ocurren al medir en máquinas que
giran a bajas velocidades (rpm).
La técnica utilizada es el PeakVue, desarrollada por CSI, la cual consiste en la separación de las
ondas de esfuerzo de las señales de vibración normal a través de un filtro pasa alto, ya que las
ondas de esfuerzo son señales dealta frecuencia. Posteriormente, la señal es rectificada y los
valores peak, en intervalos de tiempo discretos, son retenidos para ser analizados mediante
Transformada Rápida de Fourier.
El trabajo fue realizado en la Fábrica de Celulosa Laja de CMPC, en equipos que funcionan con
bajas velocidades, como es el caso de polines de prensa y cajas reductoras.
La conclusión del trabajo es que elanálisis de los valores peak de las ondas de esfuerzo es una
gran herramienta de apoyo para el análisis de vibraciones, expandiendo la habilidad de los
analistas de detectar y diagnosticar fallas en máquinas rotatorias. PeakVue es complementario al
análisis de vibraciones standard y en muchos casos puede detectar fallas que escapan a las
vibraciones normales.

ABSTRACT.
In this work a new methodology for the diagnosis of faults, is presented using the analysis of the
stress waves that induce impacts, stress cracking, etc.
To understand the importance of the analysis of the stress waves, it is necessary previously to carry
out a brief description of the maintenance predictive aswell as an introduction to the vibration’s
analysis. Later on the problems are presented that happen when measuring in machines that rotate
to low speeds (rpm).
The used technique is the PeakVue, developed by CSI, which consists on the separation of the
stress waves of the signs of normal vibration through a high pass filter, since the stress waves are
signals of high frequency. Later on,the signal is rectified and the values peak, in discreet intervals
of time, they are retained to be analyzed by means of Fast Fourier Transform.
The work was carried out in the Cellulose's Factory Laja of CMPC, in teams that work with low
speeds, like it is the case of press rollers and gearboxes.
The conclusion of the work is that the analysis of the peak value of the stress waves is agreat
support tool for the vibration’s analysis, expanding the ability of the analysts to detect and to
diagnose faults in rotational machines. PeakVue is complementary to the standard vibration’s
analysis and in many cases it can detect faults that escape to the normal vibrations.
