The United Nations
1. What is the UN?
The UN is an organization that wants to unite and work for peace with all nations from the world, taking into account the well being of all people. It helpsthe countries to be interested in international problems.
2. How was it created?
The UN was created during the Second World War on January the 1st, on this day the US president Franklin D. Rooseveltand the British prime minister, Winston Churchill signed by representatives of 26 countries, called the United Nations, the organization vowed to create an international after war peace keepingorganization.
The attack on Pearl Harbour meant that the US was involved in the war so the US and Great Britain created a project to front against Axis powers.
The Arcadia conference did the UN agreement.Led by United States, Great Britain and the Soviet Union, they agreed that they would use all of the available resources to defeat the axis powers. They would act in concert, in order to avoidindividual pace agreements. The UN promised “life, liberty, independence, and religious freedom”
3. What are its aims and principles
Aims:
- To keep peace throughout the world.
- To develop friendlyrelations between nations.
- To work together to help people live better lives, to eliminate poverty, disease and illiteracy in the world, to stop environmental destruction and to encourage respect foreach other’s rights and freedoms.
- To be a centre for helping nations achieve this aims.
Principles:
- All member states have sovereign equality
- All member states must obey the charter.
-Countries must try to settle their differences by peaceful means.
- Countries must avoid using force or threatening to use force.
- The UN may not interfere in the domestic affairs of any country.
-Countries should try to assist the United Nations
