In “The Cask of Amontillado”, Montessori becomes so overwhelmed by a naïve feeling that his family name had been insulted by his friend Fortunato that he seeks revenge and kills Fortunatoby burying him alive. Finally, in “The Black Cat”, the unnamed narrator becomes so ridiculously furious with his cat Pluto one day that he intends to kill him, but at one point the narrator becomes soenraged with his wife for trying to stop him from killing Pluto that he kills her instead.
