The WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment V6.1 installation files
have already been downloaded and unzipped in a software directory on your
machine
1. Start the WebSphere Application Server Launchpad.
a. Bring up Windows Explorer (right-click My Computer —> Explore or
right-clickStart —> Explore).
b. Navigate the tree to \WAS61\.Install the WebSphere
Application Server Network Deployment V6.1.
c. Run (double-click) launchpad.exe
2. The Launchpad is displayed. On the Welcome panel there are links that launch
the installer programs for all of the installable components.
3. Click Launch the installation wizard for WebSphere Application Server
Network Deployment tolaunch the installation wizard.
a. The Welcome screen appears and looks like the image below. Click Next
to continue the installation.
b. Accept the license agreement and click Next.
c. The installation wizard will check system prerequisites. If it detects any
incorrect prerequisites a warning page is displayed. If it detects an existing
installation of WebSphere Application Server you aregiven the opportunity
to add features to the existing copy, install a new copy or perform an
upgrade of a trial installation to a full product.
The lab system should meet the prerequisites and should not have any version of
WebSphere Application Server already installed. Click Next to continue the
installation.
d. The next page allows you to choose if you want the sample applicationsinstalled. For this course, in order to save memory, accept the default of not
installing the sample applications. Click Next to continue.
e. The next page lets you change the installation directory for WebSphere
Application Server. Note the default installation directory location but do not
change this. Click Next.
f. The next screen selects which type of profile to create during theinstallation process. For this lab, select None. Instead, at the end of the
installation process, the Profile management tool is used to create an
Application Server profile. The Profile management tool provides greater
control over the options used during profile creation. Click Next to
continue.
g. A warning regarding the lack of a profile will be displayed. Click Yes
to dismiss it.

h. The nextpage shows the installation summary. Review the product to be
installed and summary information.
Click Next to start the installation. The actual installation can take several minutes.
4. After the installation is complete, a profile needs to be created. Make sure the
Create a new WebSphere Application Server profile using the Profile
management tool box is checked. Click Finish.
a. On theWelcome screen for the Profile management tool click Next to
continue.

In this exercise, create a standalone application server profile called profile1.
b. Select the Application Server profile option and click Next.
c. The next screen allows a choice of using a Typical install, which limits
the number of questions and makes certain assumptions, and an
Advanced installation. The Advancedinstallation has the same end
result, but allows the user to specify more options. For this lab, select
Advanced profile creation as this will show more options. Click Next.
NOTE:
Profiles allow you to create multiple application servers on a system without
installing the product again by creating profiles. When using the Profile
management tool, there are four types of profiles which cancreated:
•Deployment Manager which creates a new instance of a deployment
manager. Each instance of the deployment manager defines a unique cell.
•Application Server which creates a new instance of a standalone node
with a single application server. Standalone nodes have only one application
server.
•Custom Profile which creates an automatically federated/managed
node with no pre-defined...
