The Ten Commandments, also known as The Decalogue, or the Law of Moses, are ten laws in the Bible that God gave the nation of Israel shortly after their exodus from Egypt. Después de haber servido como esclavos en la tierra de Egipto. Egipto era la potencia que entonces gobernaba la mayor parte de Mesopotamia.
Dios encargo a Moisés para que sea el que mediara entre Él y el Faraón de entonces, en lo relacionado a la liberación del pueblo de Israel. Moisés había sido criado y educado en el palacio de Faraón como egipcio, pero ya siendo un hombre adulto se da cuenta de que su verdadero origen corresponde al pueblo de Israel. Luego de descubrir su verdadera identidad Moisés huye a vivir en el desierto desde donde es llamado por Dios para volver a Egipto a llevar a cabo los planes de Dios para con el pueblo de Israel.
The Ten Commandments are essentially a summary of the 600 commandments contained in the Old Testament law .The first four commandments deal with our relationship with God. The next six commandments deal with our relationship with others. The Ten Commandments are recorded in the Bible in Exodus 20:1-17 and Deuteronomy 5:6-21 and are as follows:
And God spoke all these words, saying: “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
1. You shall have no other gods before me.
2. You shall not make for yourself any carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them.
3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God.
5. Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.
6. You shall not murder.
