     Electrophoresis chambers and otherequipment can be very spendy.  I have tried to make some for my classroom so that all of my students can participate in the biotech activities and not be the on-lookers while others in the group do allthe work.  I have made electrophoresis gel chambers out of Rubbermaid and other containers.  (see above top-row). 
   For the electrode holders I used commonly obtained red and black connectors andcut small pieces of Plexiglas with a hole to attach them to the connector.  I ground or cut a notch on each side near the lower edge of the Plexiglas to hold the wire.  It is very important that youorder and use platinum wire for this, as any other type of wire will corrode with the first gel run.  (I know from experience when I tried to use Ni-chrome wire!)  Platinum wire will be your biggest...
