A noun is a word used to name a person, animal, place, thing, and abstract idea. Nouns are usually the first words which small children learn.
The highlighted words in thefollowing sentences are examples:

• Portia White was an opera singer.
• The bus inspector looked at all the passengers' passes.
• According to Plutarch,the library at Alexandria was destroyed in 48 B.C.

A noun can function in a sentence as a subject, a direct object, an indirect object, a subjectcomplement, an object complement, an appositive, an adjective or an adverb.
NOUN: CLASSIFICATION.
According to his classification, the noun can be: Proper or Common.
• PROPER NOUN.The proper noun names to people, animals or specific things. Is always written with a capital first letter. may be names of people, rivers, countries, cities, animals, securities, stores, etc..Examples:
Raul Perez, Loa, Chile, Ahumada, National Library, "Pussycat", Antofagasta, President, Pope, etc.
• COMMON NOUN.
The common noun names to people, animals, thingsor ideas in general. It is written with lowercase.
Examples:
Wrist, street, table, cat, cup, love, thermometer, dining, tiger, etc..
In turn, the common noun can be:
Simpleor Compound Primitive or Derived
Concrete or Abstract Individual or Collective
• SIMPLE NOUN:
Is that is formed by a single word.
Examples:
Home, almonds, sun, cloud,pencil, computer, house, carpet, etc.
• COMPOUND NOUN:
The which consists of more than one word.
Examples:
Sharpener, country house, radiotelegraph, television, glasscleaners, fountain pen, telegraph, windshields, ham, etc.
• PRIMITIVE NOUN:
Is not derived from any word.
Examples:
Flower, shoes, bread, eye, cheese, weight,...
