Sampling and Generalizability
1. You are the head researcher on a study that is tracking vocational preferences from high school through middle adulthood. List the steps you would take in selecting the sample to be used in the study
First you decide in which place you are going to make the study, I decided to do it in a school, after that you ask for a list of all of the students, they are100 students in these school and I decided to interview 20 of them and I will interview a two girls and two boys from each level.
2. Why is a table of random numbers as useful as a tool for assigning people to different groups?
Because when you try to select something randomly is hard to decide how to do it, and this table is really easy to work with, you just numerate what you are doing thestudy about and take the three last numbers of the random table to relate it with the numeration you did, and it’s done you chose your sample randomly and easy
3. What’s wrong with this scenario? An experimenter is interested in better understanding why some people love fast food and some do not. He stands in the fast food isle of the market and asks buyers their opinion.
The error would bethat he is researching the two sides, and he is only interviewing one side of the research, if he presents the result just asking the lovers of fast food the research won’t be reliable.
4. What is the difference between a probability and a no probability sampling strategy? Provide an example of each. Also, what are the advantages and disadvantages of each type of sample?
In probabilitysampling everyone has the same chance of being part of the study, no one has a better chance of being in the study that another person and the characteristics of these samples are related to closely to the population, for example, I want to create a business of taking care of dogs, but before I do it I want to know if the people of my suburb will bring me their dogs, for all the people that live here Iwant to interview 35 people, I make a list of all of the people, numerate them and then I use a random table to select the people I’m gone interview. The advantages of these sampling is that there is no room for preferences.
In no probability sampling you assume that the potential members of the sample doesn´t have equal and independent chance of being selected, for example I do the same studyexplained before, but I only interview the people I know. These sampling is less expensive than the other and ensure a representative part of the population, but because you chose the sample the result may not be totally reliable.

5. What is the easiest way to reduce sampling error? What is the relationship between Sampling error and the generalizability of the results of a study? Finally, what happens to sampling error as the size of the sample increases? Why?
The easiest way you can reduce the sample error is identifying for your study what is the best sampling procedure in order to get a representative part of the study, the relationship is that a sampling error could change the possibilities of the parts of general study, and could change the result affecting the research, andfinally if the sample increases there is less possibility of sampling error because you are taking in count more people, and you can get more opinions that you could get in a smaller sample.

6. With a population of 10, 000 children (50% boys and 50% girls, 70% white and 30% nonwhite, 57% single-parent family and 43% dual-parent family), what steps would you use to select a representativesample size of 150?
7. Using a table of random numbers, select six names from the following list of ten:
Michael Susan Sara Kent Selma
Harriet Annette David Sharon Ed
8. How many of the six would you expect to be males, and how many would you expect to be females? Why?
By probability 3 could be women’s and 3 could be boys, but because we are using a random table it can be any...
