The formation of bilingual professionals, able to confront with independence and creativity, the challenges of teaching the Spanish language here in the United States, has made me shift myprofessional goals towards the proper education of my native language.
Currently the Spanish speaking population in the United States is estimated at thirty five million. Representing an increase ofsixty percent just in the last decade, and is expected that by the year 2050 it will comprise as much as fifty of the nation’s habitants. Spanish is used daily in this country by business men,professionals, students, workers, and other general public, and eventually it may become the second language in North America. As a result, we can expect an increase on demand for Spanish educationprofessionals.
Throughout my teaching career, I have had the wonderful opportunity to instruct a diverse group of high school students, including those who never have took Spanish classes before and alsostudents with learning disabilities. I have also participated in numerous professional development courses allowing me to enhance my teaching techniques and implement engaging activities, whichfacilitate all styles of learners.
My greatest applicable strength is my ability to design stimulating lesson plans that instill a love for learning and a true appreciation for Spanish language andculture. I incorporate fun manipulative and hand-on activities to accommodate multiple styles of learning encourage students learning, consolidate important concepts, and enhance student’s academicskills. I establish a relaxed atmosphere that promotes socialization and real world connections, as well as open and honest communication.
I currently teach as a professor of Spanish for levelstwo, three and four at Paul VI Catholic High School located in Fairfax County, Virginia. With seven years of hands on teaching experience, I have no doubt in my ability to become a valuable asset to...
