Greek and Roman Mythology
The Titans and the Twelve Great Olympians:
The Gods of the Water: Poseidon or Neptune is the ruler of the Mediterranean and the Black sea as well as all underground rivers. The ruler of the entire ocean is Ocean whose wife is Tethys; their daughters are the Oceanids, nymphs of the ocean. All rivers on earth have a god; these gods are sons of Ocean and Tethys. Pontusis son of mother earth; Nereus his son is known as the old man of the Mediterranean and is married to Doris daughter of Ocean. The two had fifty daughters known as Nereids, nymphs of the sea. Triton was the trumpeter of the Sea, his trumpet a shell, son of Poseidon and Amphitrite. Proteus is a god with the power to seeing the future and changing shapes. The Naiads were fresh water nymphs.
TheLesser Gods of Earth: There were many lesser gods on Earth: Pan and Silenus were mischievous and jovial. Pan ruled over a goat-men race and dances with Dryads. The twins Castor and Pollux were also lesser gods of Earth. Earth was also home to the wind gods: Aelus,  King of the Winds; Boreas, the North Wind; Zephyr, the West; Notus, the South; and Eurus, the East.
The Roman Gods: The Romans namedthe twelve great Olympians these were Jupiter, Juno, Neptune, Vesta, Mars, Minerva, Venus, Mercury, Diana, Vulcan and Demeter. The romans were forced to adopt these gods because although religious people they lacked the imagination to create those of their own. Their gods, before these, were the Numina who were very simple and vague gods. They were not interested in interesting and complex godsuntil Greek literature and art entered Roman lifestyle. The Romans only cared for what their gods served as, never did they create stories to go along with their powers and services like the Greeks did.
Demeter/Ceres: Goddess of harvest and nature who provided plenty of fruitful crops and protected farming land. Every five years she would be celebrated and her main temple was located inEleusis. Worshiping her was a central part of the life of the ancient people as well as a mysterious one. Demeter along with Bacchus lived in a world filled with regular suffering.
Dionysus/Bacchus: Dionysus was god of wine and revelry. He rules the grapevine and the production of wine. Has a human parent; Son of Zeus and son of his mortal mother Semele.
Flower Myths: Narcissus: This was a young,extremely handsome, self-obsessed man who constantly broke the hearts of women in love with his beauty. One of which was the nymph Echo, who could only repeat what was said to her. After seeing this, the goddess Nemesis punishes Narcissus by allowing him to love no one but himself. After gazing into a pool of water he sees his reflection and is unable to look away admiring his beauty, this leadsto his death after starving.
Cupid and Psyche: Psyche was a beautiful princess whom men worshiped; Venus became jealous and enraged so she sent her son Cupid to make her fall in love with the ugliest creature in the world. Cupid, however, fell in love with her and prevented anyone else from falling in love with her. Psyche then began being left alone during the day and at night would be with herhusband who she never saw. When she finally was able to see it was Cupid she accidentally spilled oil on him. She is very sorry but is set to complete four very difficult tasks. She is later turned into a mortal and accepted by Venus.
Orpheus and Eurydice: Orpheus was the son of one of the Muses and the greatest mortal musician. When his wife Eurydice dies he is allowed on a journey to theunderworld. In the underworld Orpheus convinces Pluto to let Eurydice return to the world of the living. The catch to her return is that she must walk behind him on the way back to the world of the living. Overwhelmed with doubt he turns to soon once again losing his wife.
