Title: Human-centered computing: training users in complex domainsinformative
In modern society, either making life-altering decisions or perform everyday tasks, people use online information, participate in complex information that put high demands on them and thecomputer systems they use. Since this is partly due to the avalanche of data that users must manage, significant research has been aimed at developing automatic mechanisms that can handle large amounts ofdata. Interestingly, while systems and algorithms continue to improve, people increasingly have to deal with online documents in a more active way, and intense than ever before. The challenge is notonly for people to handle more data, but empowering them to use this continuously growing quantity of data, carry out increasingly complex information. This is particularly evident in complex domainsand rich in information and computational journalism, cultural institutions, and assistive technology. In this talk, we discuss how research on human-centered health informatics is giving answers tothe challenge of supporting (and drawing) intense user involvement in complex information-rich domains by combining human knowledge with the calculation of the machine.
