Colombia is a beautiful country located in South America, I live there but three months ago I moved to Canada to learn English and I found a lot of differenceslike: greetings, education, religion, economy, customs, etc. Today I’m going to talk about three of them: Greetings, punctuality and religion.
As people know, people from SouthAmerica use to be more affectionate and have physical contact when they have a conversation but Canadians don’t. Is like that how I started to notices the different greetingsbetween Colombia and Canada.
First of all, in Colombia when people meet at the first time they just shake hands the same as Canadian they usually do it in a casual or formal waydepends about the context, but if you already know the person in Colombia is common give a kiss on the cheek to say hello or goodbye but in Canada is unusual. AlthoughCanadians see public display of affection in a poor taste, for Colombians is normal to see couples kissing or hugging in the middle of the street.
In addition to greetings, Canadiansreally care about be punctual when they are meeting with someone else. On the other hand Colombians don’t care about the time, the always arrive late with whatever excuse butpeople don’t mind because is part of our culture.
Finally but not less important, everyone knows that Canada has a lot of foreigners, that’s why you can find many religionsthere but people who born in Canada usually don’t have one different from Colombia because we don’t have many foreigners and the most popular religion is Catholicism.
Inconclusion the comparison between Colombia and Canada culture reveals that this countries has many differences and similarities but it doesn’t make one country better than the other.
