THE HUMAN FIGURE IN PRECLASSIC MAYA ART
Maya art developed during the Preclassic, but kept onhaving constant variations starting from the Late Preclassic, when painting and sculpture jumped to first row. Siteslike Kaminaljuyu, Uaxactun, Calakmul, San Bartolo and Tikal maintained a cosmogram where symbols, human figures andwritten texts were introduced constantly, not only in building walls, but also in stone sculptured monuments. The imagesshow very thin human characters, without sandals or other high status paraphernalia attributes, which would mark aspecific order for many sites in the Lowlands and Highlands during the future 1000 years.
