CULTURE OF DENMARK
The culture of Denmark, while rich in the arts, has some general characteristics associated with Danish society and everyday culture. Modesty, punctuality but above all equalityare important aspects of the Danish way of life.

Hygge
One of the fundamental aspects of Danish culture is "hygge": relaxing with good friends or loved ones, oftenwhile enjoying good food and something to drink or creating a more friendly atmosphere by lighting a few candles. Christmas time, when loved ones sit close together on a cold rainy night.
FolkloreDanish folklore is made up of folk tales, legends, songs, music, dancing, popular beliefs and traditions, mostly comuminicated by the inhabitants of towns and villages across the country. Many of thesewere passed on from generation to generation by word of mouth. As in neighbouring countries, interest in folklore grew with an emerging feeling of national consciousness in 19th century Denmark.Danish cuisine
Perhaps the most typically Danish contribution to the meals of the day is the traditional lunch or smørrebrød consisting of open sandwiches, usually on thinly sliced rye bread. The mealusually begins with fish such as marinated herring, smoked eel, crab, or breaded plaice filets with remoulade and moves on with slices of roast pork or beef, frikadeller (meatballs), hams and liver paté.The sandwiches are richly garnished with onion rings, radish slices, cucumbers, tomato slices, parsely, remoulade and mayonnaise.[15] The meal is often accompanied by beer, sometimes also by shots ofice-cold snaps or akvavit.

Sports are popular in Denmark, and its citizens participate in and watch a wide variety. The national sport is football (soccer), with the most notable resultsbeing qualifying for the European Championships six times in a row (1984–2004) and winning the Championship in 1992.
