In 1936 Spain was plunged into a bloody civil war. The war ended in a nationalist dictatorship, led by Francisco Franco which controlled the Spanish government until 1975

HisIdeology:

The new system introduced in 1939 had from the beginning a very clear ideological bases:
-Concentration of political power in Franco. The "perfect adhesion to the Leader"
-Anti-communism. This factor was crucial since the beginning of the Civil War. The Cold War between the U.S. and the USSR did that the Franco regime reinforce this aspect to beaccepted into the Western world.
-Anti- parliamentarismand anti-liberalism. Francoism was always opposed to political freedoms.
- National-. The Church was the great legitimation of the Franco dictatorship. Furthermore defense of "unity of the Fatherland", and refusal to any political autonomy of the regions and promoting the Spanish language.
-Traditionalism
-Militarism.(parades, uniforms, anthems, flags ...)

Purpose of dictatorship:

Big goals, when Franco formed his first government of "peace" (actually post-war) in the summer of 1939 his purposes were:
1º. The annihilation of the internal enemy, namely the opposition
2 °. The modification, in favor of the ruling classes in the distribution of income
3º. Searching for an external aid andlegitimacy. The Church's role was crucial.
4. Searching for a mass base. This aspect is only observed in the Falangist sector.

Framework before dictatorship:

Spain had had a war for 3 years, which had caused more than a million dead and more than 350,000 exiles.
As economic consequence we can highlight:
• Agriculture and livestock: there was no job, lack of equipment andfertilizers.
• The industry: The facilities were badly damaged and the response of transport and communications were in appalling conditions.
• Spain was indebted due to civil war

What do we want to achieve with this TP

We want to show the real history about francoism and the consequences in the economy today

2. Spanish economy during the dictatorship

Before going too deeplyin the different stages that Franco’s dictatorship had, we should mention the previous atmosphere that the country was leaving those days.

Spain got into a civil war in 1936 and it had its end in 1939. Francisco Franco began his campaign for power and, in 1936, sparked the on-set of the Spanish Civil War. This war was also the world's first "modern" war- and in many ways a precursor to WorldWar II.
Eventually Spain's Second Republic was no longer able to compete with Franco, who was backed both by Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany. Thus, Franco's forces won the war in 1939.

As we said before in the 36-year dictatorship of Franco there were three mainly diverse stages.

First phase:

The first one could be called as the autarchy phase (1939-1950). Spain emerged from the Civil...
