ALAJUELA LAKE

Dam built upstream from what is now the Gatun Lake, with the purpose of controlling seasonal floods, as part of thereservoirs built for the operation of the canal between 1931 and 1939 by the pool of the Chagres River, in a section. The most important purpose of the Madden dam is to maintain an appropriate level of water in reserve for the operation of the locks and the passage of ships. The water that flows through the turbine passes then to Gatun Lake to beemployed in the operation of the locks and raising or lowering vessels in transit.
