Speech
Introduction
I. Did you know that what you do on the street is because you learned at home? Did you know that children learn 70% more by example than by preaching?
II. I would like to start this speech with “imagine that outside of this classroom there is no gender violence” I know that sounds kind of sarcastic but there is gender violence out there, and you don’t have to imaginethat, we all know there is.
III. The gender violence experts argue that there is a strong possibility that children who witnessed violence by parents towards their mothers or other female member of the family, will be violent to women too.
IV. Mexico is shaping up to be one of the countries where there is more violence. Physical abuse and murder have become one of the main threats on thispopulation.
V. I became interested in this topic because Mexico’s news reported that there are high rates of violence in this country. As a result there is at least 13 states with domestic violence alert.
VI. The most important of this issue is to highlight the 5 types of gender violence. How can we avoid gender violence? And what can we do in case of gender violence?
Body
I. Withinthe worldwide Women's forum, it’s explained that the violence is one of the oldest issues in the economic, social, political and cultural differences. Gender violence is a violation of rights and freedoms that are manifested in different ways, usually causing serious physical and psychological damage.
a. I’m going to present you what is gender violence and the 5 types of gender violence.II. In UNFPA’s article call Gender equality talks about:
b. The Gender violence that is found in private life and public life and occurs in different ways, so psychological, physical, economic and sexual abuse. Such violence can be taken in other themes such as trafficking in women, or femicide.
c. Gender violence is not only the abuse of the husband to his wife, neither the abuseindoors.
d. We must understand that gender violence is the damage that a man has on a woman in or outside the house, in the family or in a social group.
e. Now we have to clarify the differences between the five types of gender violence:
f. Psychological violence can occur in private or public life, commonly known as discrimination. For example making women embarrass, shoutingthem or taking of their rights.
g. Economic violence occurs within the family when the woman is who earns less or doesn’t have any income for the house.
h. Women who suffer sexual violence can be abused by complete strangers or also by a member of her own family.
i. The victims of physical violence suffer hits, tugs, kicks, dries or burns. Usually, physical violence cantake the victim to dead.
j. Now that we know what is gender violence and the 5 types of gender violence I want you to know how can we avoid gender violence.
III. UNFPA’s organization puts every effort into breaking the silence and making the voice of women hear. One strategy is to engage men – policy makers, parents and young male society – in a discourse about the dynamics andconsequences of violence.
k. Jackson Kats member of UNFPA’s organization, has published an article that names Things men can do to prevent gender violence. And it’s an interesting article because he wants that view men not only stand by in a perpetrators or possible offenders, but as heroes and braves who can confront abusive peers, giving men advices to prevent gender violence.
l. I don’tgoing to give you the whole advices that Jackson propose, but I will give you an example to have an idea of his propose:
i. Have the courage for confront other men if they are abusing of his partner.
ii. Recognize and search for help if you are a man that abused in sexual, psychology or physically way.
