or part of the NICE Perform Suite?

SNMP-based system and configure the traps
required to be received orfiltered.

A: NICE Sentinel is part of the NICE Perform
Suite and included in every new NICE Perform
installation.

Q: Can information be sent to NICE Sentinel
from a third-party monitoring system?

Q: What are the main differences between
NICE Sentinel Releases 1.0, 2.1 and 2.5?

No, NICE Sentinel only sends outbound alarms
from NICE Perform and does not receive
information fromthird-party monitoring systems.

A: Please refer to the NICE Sentinel Version
Comparison document

Q: How many NICE Perform servers can a
single NICE Sentinel monitor?

Q: What does NICE Sentinel monitor?

A: A single NICE Sentinel server can monitor up
to 200 NICE Perform servers.

A: NICE Sentinel monitors all NICE Perform
system components, such as TDM/VoIP
Loggers, the Database Server andthe
Interactions Center.
Q: Is NICE Sentinel installed on a separate
server?
A: Yes. NICE Sentinel is installed on a separate
server for accurate and independent monitoring.
In addition, third-party software components
cannot be installed on the NICE Sentinel server
without prior permission from NICE.
Q: Is it possible to use NICE Sentinel
alongside a central monitoring solution (e.g.,HP Network Node Manage, CA Unicenter,
and IBM Tivoli)?
A: Yes. NICE Sentinel monitors NICE Perform
components and can operate in conjunction
with the central network management system
in the enterprise. Since alarm forwarding to a
centralized network management system is
part of the version, full alarms can be viewed in
systems outside the NICE Sentinel as well.
In addition, NICEprovides the relevant MIB
files, which are standard SNMP definition files.
The customer can load these MIB files into an

Q: Is it possible to connect multiple users to
NICE Sentinel?
A: Yes. NICE Sentinel supports multiple
connections and up to 5 concurrent connections
within the basic package. If required, a
package of 20 concurrent connections can be
purchased.
Q: Does NICE Sentinelsupport NICE Perform
eXpress?
A: Not yet. NICE Perform eXpress support is
planned for the end of FY2011
Q: Can NICE Sentinel be installed in a

Sentinel. It simplifies some of the configuration
flows in NICE Sentinel which require the user to
navigate between several different forms.

Data Gathering
Q: Which data sources and protocols does
NICE Sentinel use?
A: NICE Sentinel gathers information via SNMP
traps, WMI data polling, database queries, ICMP
and NICEPerform APIs.
Q: Does the data polling affect the system
performance?
A: No. SNMP traps have little effect on the
system. Other data is polled periodically and
does not affect the system’s performance at all.
Q: What are NICE Sentinel’s minimal network
requirements?
A: The latency between NICE Sentinel and the
monitored elements should be under 50ms. The
bandwidth should be as follows:
• ForSMBs and unified architectures– 0.4 Mbps
of bandwidth is required
• For distributed architectures– 0.15 Mbps of
bandwidth per server is required

Alarms, Notifications &
Forwarding
Q: Are the alarms predefined or can they be
user-defined?
A: NICE Sentinel incorporates a comprehensive
set of pre-defined alarms. The user can also set
thresholds and define new alarms.
