Welcome to the world of thrash metal. My name is Christian Mercedes I play guitar and vocals for PR Death/Thrash Metal band Sniff. For those of you who are ignorant or maybe just havent had the chance to know or learn what is THRASH METAL,Here it is.Before you start to read! Hail to the big FOUR!! Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth & Slayer.
Thrash is basically the underground metal that made the '80srighteous. Bands like Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax & Megadeth emerged in a time when pop metal was in. Basically they took metal back to the way it was meant to be, heavy. The first band ever to play Thrash/Black and Death Metal are the true Fathers VENOM! In 81 with Welcome to Hell.Thrash is played extremely fast and intricate, thrash takes skill and endurance to play live. Some of the best albums inthe genre include Master of Puppets by Metallica, Beneath The Remain by Sepultura, , Reign In Blood by Slayer, Peace Sells But Whos Bying? by Megadeth. .And remember this, be "open minded". I'd say about 95% of Limp Bizkit fans only "like" it because every other 15 year old says they like it. And why do so many say they dig that cess ridden filth? Because it is played on the radio every othersong and on MTV, so the kiddies think, "Well, this must be cool, so I HAVE to listen to it." So don't take MY word about thrash, discover it yourself! Listen to these albums below, and you will never turn back.
Metallica
'Kill 'Em All'
Very early thrash. This is the purest form of thrash avalible.
'Ride the Lightning'
One of the most influential albums of all time. This one has everything fromblazing speed, to a thrash ballad, to a very well composed instrumental. The only album that could possibly top this is "Master of Puppets."
'Master of Puppets'
Probably the best classic Metallica release. Every song rocks! This is the most complete metal album in history.
'...And Justice For All'
The only thing missing in this one is Cliff!(R.I.P)
Exodus
'Bonded by Blood'
Personally, this is my favorite Exodus. Had this come out when it was recorded in '84, it would have made a greater impact. Due to record label delays it came out in '85 and still made an impression. They are possibly one of the most underrated bands of all time.
'Pleasures of the Flesh'
I just found this one recently, and I haven't given it enough listens to truly appreciate it like the other Exodus albums.I don't think it's as good as Bonded or Fabulous Diasaster though. It's hard to find, or at least it is for me, so if you see it, get it.
'Fabulous Disaster'
Made to make your head bleed!
Slayer
'Show No Mercy'
This is right up there with Kill 'Em All. One of my personal favorites, and a classic.
'Haunting the Chapel'
Only four songs...but four of the BEST! Agressive Perfector wasSlayer's first song and is included as a bonus track. Ya, this version might sound like it is good to square dance to, but they redid it on Reign In Blood. (On the Expanded Edition though)
'Hell Awaits'
This one includes seven very progressive Slayer tunes. They are all around six minutes and are loaded with riffs.
'Reign In Blood'
The fastest thing known to man. This one is short, but SWEET! ANDTHE BEST THRASH METAL ALBUM EVER MADE! First gore lyrics ever to be written in metal!.The Satanic image is beautiful hail Slayer!
'South Of Heaven'
Yes, it is slower, but by no means slow. This is still fast thrash at it's best.
'Seasons In The Abyss'
This is Slayer's most complete record. You've got "Reign in Blood" style, "South of Heaven" style, along will some of the best lyrics theband has ever written. You should have no problem head bangin' to this!
Testament
'The Legacy'
Great debut! I think they sound way different than any other band, but some say they are Metallica clones. Not true. This is one of the best thrash albums from the '80s which is worth getting.
'The New Order'
Another awesome offering from Testament. The production is a little better than The...
