Importancia del contexto histórico en ''the kite runner'' (inglés)

In this essay I am going to describe the influence of Afghan history and politics in the lives of the characters of ‘’The Kite Runner’’. This book apart of being an interesting story about humanrelationships and human behaviour, I think this book was written to try to explain to us the situation of Afghanistan. The writer was talented enough to fit an educational background in a best-seller. Inthe following paragraphs I am going to explain which crucial historic events are shown in the book and how Amir, Hassan, Baba and all the others live those moments.
We could start with Afghanistanduring the monarchy, but I think that one of the events which has greater influence on the characters’ lives happened a long time before Baba was born: the conflict between Pashtuns and Hazaras. KhaledHosseini represents very well the conflict between Pashtuns and Hazaras, by explaining the form of religious hate they have towards each other, and the way Pashtuns treat Hazaras. This conflict ispresent from the beginning of the book until the end (when the father of Soraya criticizes Amir for having a Hazara boy at home). When Amir thinks ‘’what does he know, that illiterate Hazara? He’ll neverbe anything but a cook. How dare he criticise you.’’ We can see that even the kids are influenced by the discrimination from the society.
The early chapters tell much about the cosmopolitan socialand intellectual lives of Kabul elite society during the monarchy. We can see the underground conflict between extremist Muslims and the others, when Amir says to Baba that drinking is a sin. Babaexplains him that the only sin that exist is stealing and that he would never learn anything ‘’from this bearded idiots’’. This tension was created when the king Daud Khan established new regulations thatshould end with the tradition of hiding women from the public life and wearing the veil was voluntary.
