Independence of Mexico
Monday September 2oth, 2010
San José del Cabo, B.C.S. México
The Independence warstarted because the Spanish people put down the native group. Some of these reasons are: only the Spaniards born in Spain were always in positions of command and had more privileges. The “Criollos”(Spaniards born in New Spain) did not have the same privileges. They had lower positions. And the Native people did not have any privileges at all. Normally they had to beg for money, work in theHaciendas or agriculture.
Since the Criollos and Natives were very unhappy, some of them got together in reunions called “conspiracies”. To these conspiracies attended Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, DoñaJosefa Ortíz, Miguel Domínguez, Ignacio Allende among others. One day this conspiracy was discovered by the Spaniards. Doña Josefa Ortíz found out about this and went to tell General Allende andMiguel Hidalgo y Costilla.
Miguel Hidalgo decided to start sooner the independence movement for the dawn of September 16th of 1810. That night Miguel Hidalgo sent someone to ring the bell of thecathedral. The ring upset the Native people and they went to the plaza armed with sticks and stones. The “Grito de Dolores” took place that night.
Since that night started the war for the independence forthe New Spain. The war went through many stages. One of the most important was when they attacked the Alhóndiga de Granaditas, a place where the Spaniards hide. There everybody was killed. Manymore wars happened until General Agustín de Iturbide came to command the Ejército Realista With Iturbide commanding many Natives were killed, while Vicente Guerrero commanding the Army Insurgente. But one day they agreed the Iguala Plan the February 24th of 1821. This plan say that Catholic religion, the independence of the New Spain and established the union of all social groups.
