Hi, I'm going to talk about Alexander the Great ,the king of the ancient Macedonia and one of the best general in history. I'll describe his origin, when he lived and died , and maybe I could saysomething related to the strategy he used to conquer the entire known world.
Alexander was born in Pella, Macedonia, 356 BC ,the son of Philip Macedon, who was an excellent general and organizer . Hismother was Olympias , princess of Epirus.
She was brilliant and hot-tempered. Alexander inherited the best qualities of both parents ,but he was even more ambitious than his father .
He was taughtto fiercely believe that his blood came from gods and at the age of 13 he became the pupil of Aristotle . He was always eager to learn .
Alexander became king of Macedonia when he was just 20 and theambitious young king turned his thoughts to conquering Persia as his father had planned it before him .
He crossed the Hellespont with an army of 35000 soldiers and stormed with his cavalry. Thisvictory opened all Asia minor to him.
In the spring of 327 BC, Alexander and his army marched into India invading Punjab. The greatest of Alexander's battles in India was at the river Hydaspes, againstking Porus, one of the most powerful Indian rulers. In the summer of 326 BC, Alexander's army crossed the heavily defended river during a violent thunderstorm to meet Porus' forces. The Indians weredefeated in a fierce battle, even though they fought with elephants, which the Macedonians had never seen before. Porus was captured and like the other local rulers he had defeated, Alexander allowedhim to continue to govern his territory.
He was a very effective general and won almost all of his battles on unfamiliar ground and very far from his supply lines. But he was also very deliberateabout establishing the structures of civilized society wherever he went.
