CUSTOMS CHANGES AT COLOMBIAN COAST
In every country the culture builds the habits, styles, behaviors and each trait that it has. The societies forms ideas and rules depend on its cultures. InColombia, there are many customs and social characteristics because our country has a big border between its geographic zones and the people that live in those regions. For this reasons, we have creatednames for Colombia’s society classification, because the ‘cachacos’ and ‘paisas’ have different customs than the ‘costeños’.

According to the previous paragraph, I’m going to talk about the Colombiancustoms, specificly in three aspects (greetings, punctuality and dress habits), and how it changed in the last 25 years. The writing is focus on coast people and it is based on an interview realizedto Martin Suarez. He is an civil engineer brought up in Santa Marta, and now he lives in Barranquilla.

Today we used to an informally greeting, obviously depend on the age and the person that youmet, man or woman. Usually the men shake or hit their hands saying shorts names or words, for example ‘compadre’, ‘doctor’, ‘llave’ or just hello. But the younger people used to say ‘papi que’, ‘todobien’ or ‘habla’. When you meet a women, at first time, it’s common take her hand softly to introduce you, or, if you knew the lady, just kiss her cheek. In 25 years ago case, the greetings was not asinformally as it is today. Before, the people just shake their hands saying hello or their names with a high repect level, showing a formal greet.

The punctuality has changed a lot. Some years agothe people used to be at their dates early, around of 10 minutes before the date time, because to be punctual was the first way to show respect. Nowadays, we are more relax and it is normal that theperson arrives late.

The last item to compare is how we use the cloths. Actually, the people wear jeans and very light clothes, but in the past they used to wear formal cloths, like pants,...
