UNIT OF WORK Nº1

DAY 1- FIRST PERIOD
Pre-task

WARMING UP (8´)

Objective: To lower the affective filter and engage students in the topic.

T: Hello! Good morning!
ST: Hello!
T: Ok! Today, we are going to do a game! Do you like games?
ST: Si/ yes
T: Ok! Here we have 5 envelops of different colours. Each envelop has something inside.
(The teacher chooses 5 students. Each of them hasto choose an envelop by saying the colour. Then, the teacher writes the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 on the blackboard)
T: Ok! Now, open the envelops. What do you have there? Show it to your partners.
ST: Una parte de un dibujo/ como un rompecabezas
T: Very good! A piece of a puzzle. Now each piece has a number. Let’s order them on the board!
(The students will discover which number they have.They will have to stick the piece they have on the board according to the number).




The teacher and the students talk about the picture they have already shaped which is about a mother,who is cooking a cake.

T: What can you see in the picture?
ST: A mother with her daughter/ una mama con su hija
T: Yes a mother with herdaughter! Good! And what are they doing? Where are they? Are they in the living room?
ST: They are in the kitchen/ hablando/cocinando.
T: Yes! They are in the kitchen. The mother is cooking and the daughter is talking to her.


PRE-PRESENTATION: (2´)

Objectives: to allow the students to predict the content of the activity they will develop later on.
The teacher and students will carry out abrain-storming based on the picture they have previously shaped.

T: What do you think they are talking about?
S: Sobre la escuela/ sobre la comida/ sobre una torta
T: Well, let´s see what they are talking about

PRESENTATION (18´):

PRE-LISTENING (3´)

The teacher gives the student a photocopy of the conversation they will listen to later.

Objective: To allow the students to predictthe format to create context.

T: What is it?, Is it a song?
ST: no, es un dialogo/ es una conversacion
T: Why?
ST: Porque dice “Mary” y “Mum” y tiene los 2 puntos.
T: Ok, what do you think It is about?
ST: de la comida que estan preprando.
T: Ok. Now, let’s see.

LISTENING (10´)

Objective: To provide the students with input.

The teacher will introduce imperative verbs with alistening activity.

CONVERSATION

Marie: Mum, what are you doing?
Mum: I’m making a cake.
Marie: Mmm! A cake! It’s delicious!
Mum: Do you want to help me?
Marie: Yes, I do. But I don’t know how to make a cake.
Mum: It’s ok. I will show you. First, put 2 eggs and milk and whip them.
Marie: Mmm, milk! I like it!
Mum: Yes, now add flour and then mix all the batter.
Marie: Done!
Mum: Verygood! Now we pour the batter in a pan and bake it in the oven.
Marie: And then, it is ready to eat!

NOTE*The children will listen (twice) to the conversation between a mother and her daughter who are making a cake. After listening, the teacher asks them what the conversation is about and the students have to explain.
Purpose: To check the students´undestanding of the listening.

T: What isit?
ST: Una conversacion.
T: And what is it about?
ST: About a mother and her daughter/ una mama y su hija.
T: Right! A mother and her daughter! What are they doing?
ST: They are making a cake/ haciendo una torta.
T: Very good! They are making a cake, now you have to do the true or false activity, and justify if it is false.

TRUE or FALSE:

1) They are cooking a fish. F, THEY ARE COOKINGA CAKE
2) They mix the sugar and the salt. F, THEY MIX THE SUGAR AND THE BUTTER.
3) They whip the eggs and the milk. T
4) Finally, they bake it in the oven. T

AFTER LISTENING (5´):

After doing the true or false activity, the teacher will give the students an activity in which they will have to find the verbs, identify them on the conversation and underline them.
