VERBOS MODALES
-No lleva auxiliares ni en pregunta, ni en negativo.
-No lleva ‘s’ en la tercera persona del singular
-Son seguidos por un infinitivo sin to
-Pueden expresar:obligación, permiso, prohibición, capacidad, deducción
1. HABILIDAD: capacidad para hacer algo
-CAN
·I can play the piano (se tocar el piano o puedo tocar el piano); Can you play the piano? ; Ican’t play the piano
·You can have a party when you finish your exams.
-COULD (pasado)
·I could play the piano when I was ten (sabía o podia tocar el piano cuando tenia 10 años)
·When I was 15, Icouldn’t go to parties
-BE ALLOWED TO
·Her children are allowed to stay up as late as the want on Saturdays. (A sus hijos se les permite quedarse hasta tan tarde como quieren los sábados.)
·Herchildren aren’t allowed to stay up as late as the want on Saturdays.
·Her children were allowed to stay up as late as the want on Saturdays.
-TO BE ABLE TO (ser capaz de algo en algún momentodeterminado)
·futuro: i will be able to pass my exam
·pasado: i was able to climb that tree.
2. OBLICACION
-MUST, obligacion fuerte.
·You must do your homework (deber u obligación.); You musn’t do yourhomework.
-HAVE TO; HAS TO/ HAD TO, obligacion por regla general
·I have to wear a uniform at school (tengo que llevarlo, porque es así, mediante una regla)
·She has to wear…
·I had to wear…-SHOULD/SHOULD + HAVE + PARTICIPIO, obligacion suave consejo, recomendacion opinion.
·You should go to the doctor; You shouldn’t smoke so much (deberías)
·You shouldn’t have gone to bed so late last night.(No se debería haber ido a la cama anoche tan tarde)
3. NO OBLIGACION
·You don’t have to pay for it, it’s free (no tienes que pagar por esto, es gratis).
·You needn’t pay for it, it’s free (notienes que pagar por esto, es gratis) ¡No tienes por qué hacerlo!
4. PROHIBICIÓN
-MUSN’T
·You musn’t eat in the library (no debes comer en la biblioteca)
