Wild animal in danger
The Bengala or Indian Tiger is one of the five “big cats”. It lives for twenty-six years in the wild. It has got black stripes on an oranges coat and weighs between 180 and 265kg. Tigers love water and swim well. They can also see very well at night.
The Bengala Tiger needs a lot of space to hunt. It lives in Asia, mainly in the tropical forests of India, Burma,Bangladesh and Bhutan, but it also lives in the cold forests of the Himalayas.
Tigers eat deer, buffalo, wild pigs and monkeys. They catch their prey and then use their stron teeth it bite the throat or backof the neck. They can eat thirty to forty kilograms of meat a night.
At the beginning of the twentieth century, there were about 40,000 tigers. Today there are only 5,000. Tigers are in dangerbecause they need a lot of land to hunt. To save the tigers we must find ways to conserve their land and also protect them from illegal hunting.
