The Palace of Versailles ( in French: Château de Versailles castle mansion Versailles) is a building that served as a royal residence in past centuries. The palace is located inthe town of Versailles, Île-de-France. Its construction was ordered by Louis XIV, and is one of the most important architectural complexes monarchical in Europe.
The museum of thepalace of Versailles was created in 1837 by Camille Bachasson, Earl of Montalivet, by order of Louis Philippe and is known as "Museum of the history of France."
They constitute,with its 18,000 m² the largest museum of world history. The museum contains a collection of paintings collected or commissioned by Louis Philippe and are organized by historicalseries. For its exhibition, some departments were transformed into museum halls.
Currently, the museum of the history of France is located in the wings, while the central part(except for the ground floor), the large departments, the private rooms and departments of the royal family have been restored and can be seen as were when they were occupied by thekings.
The conservation of Versailles is very expensive, especially with respect to its immense roof, but tourism and donations, complete state subsidy for maintenance.
