PRACTICE FOR INTERPRETERS

Recommended Best Practices for Interpretation

To ensure a positive and professional service, RCOE has established the following practices.

| || Interpreters are professionals who facilitate communication between English speakers and non-English speakers without prejudice |
| | |or discrimination based on race, color,and national origin, sex disability, and age. |

| | |The primary role of an interpreter is to orally relay in different language what a speaker is saying. At times,interpreters may |
| | |have to rely on lengthy explanations when there is not a linguistic equivalent for a word, term, or phrase. |

| | |Interpreters are privy to confidentialinformation, especially when interpreting for Individualized Education Plan (IEP) |
| | |meetings, and must therefore adhere to strict confidentiality standards. They mustabstain form discussing the contents of the |
