CULEBRA

CULEBRA IS AN ISLAND WHICH IS PART OF PUERTO RICO
AND IT IS 17 MILES EAST OF PUERTO RICO, NEAR FAJARDO.
THE ISLAND IS 7MILES LONG.CULEBRA WAS COLONIZED BY THE
SPANISH IN 1886 AND 1898,
WAS SETTLED BY THE U.S. CULEBRA WAS MAINLY USED
BY PIRATES WHO USED THE ISLAND TO HIDE. CULEBRA WAS
MAINLY USED BY PIRATES WHOUSED THE ISLAND TO HIDE.
TODAY YOU CAN SEE THE WHITE SAND AND CORAL CRYSTAL
CLEAR WATER IN ITS NATURAL STATE.

WEATHER

The temperature varies from 80 to 90 degrees
during the day and 75 to 85degrees at night. Culebra
is very small which does not attract a lot of
convection producing semi-arid climate.
Therefore some plants that need a reliable rainy season
will not survive inCulebra. This is the reason that
Culebra is more like subtropical lands.

FLAG

The Culebra flag consists of five vertical stripes, three
alternate yellow and two green ones.
The yellow centralstripe has the map
of Culebra in green.

COAT OF ARMS

The cross and staff represent San Ildefonso.
The actual name Culebra is represented by the twisting
green serpent.
The three towercrown represents the municipality.
The gold color corresponds to the Culebra flag
that originated with the Committee
Pro-Defense of Culebra. Green also seen in
the national shield connects Culebrato the rest
of Puerto Rico.

In total there are approximate 1,900
persons in Culebra.

The currency usedis the dollar. No passport or visa
required for Americans.

LANGUAGE

The local language is Spanish. They speak English and Spanish.
They call it Spanglish, that is a mixture of
bothlanguages.

of the island and also they are responsible for making people
take good care of environment.
