Standards –based lesson plan (forSpanish as a second language)

1.- Lesson Theme: Velázquez. Life and work. The painting and the style of Velázquez.
2.- Lesson Goals (AP 4 – Critical Thinking)
In this class, students will be able to know some aspects of Diego Velázquez’s life and the characteristics of his painting and style, and explain their knowledge through appropiate use of Spanish.
3.-Instructional Standard Identification (AP 4 – Critical Thinking)

The student engages in conversation, expresses feelings and emotions, and exchanges opinions. (FL.A.1.4)
The student understands and interprets written and spoken language on a variety of topics. (FL.A.2.4)
The student recognizes that languages have different patterns of communication and applies this knowledge to his or her ownculture. (FL.D.1.4)
The student demonstrates an understanding of the relationship between the perspectives and products of culture studied and uses this knowledge to recognize cultural practices. (FL.B.1.4)
The student reinforces and furthers knowledge of other disciplines through foreign language. (FL.C.1.4)
The student uses the language within and beyond the school setting. (FL.E.1.4)
4.-Objectives/Student Learning Outcomes (AP 4 – Critical Thinking)
students will be able to:
* Know some of the most important aspects about Velázquez’s life, as well as identify his better works.
* Identify and discuss artistic expressions and forms of painting and o Velázquez’s style.
* Analyze and interpret historical circumstances the baroque emergence.
* Apply knowledge and skillsto recognize Velázquez’s painting.
.
* Evaluate Velázquez’s paint and express their judgments, feelings and emotions that this study has awakened . Summarize and express their point of views through an assay.
* Explain how the characteristics of baroque are reflected on the Velázquez’s paint
* Develop aesthetic appreciation through the study and observation of theVelázquez’s painting.
* Increasing language skills understanding and applying the Spanish language pronunciation, intonation, stress patterns, and writing conventions in a variety of contexts

5.- Learner Characteristics (AP 4 – Critical Thinking)
To ensure the development of critical thinking in students shall be taken into account learning styles: 22 students of them, gifted 4, ESOL10. I will design activities that promote learning differentiated that support their opportunities of development.
6.- Instructional of Materials, Methods, and Technology (AP 4 Critical Thinking and AP 12 Technology)
Materials: Overhead projector and transparencies, pictures, text Cultures of Spain , photos of Diego Velazquez , Computer with connection to internet . Power-Point. Dictionary of Spanish language.
Active methods: observation, joint development, independent work, teamwork, explanation by the teacher, cooperative and collaborative learning.

Grado: 11no (16-17 años )
Tema: Velázquez. Vida y obra. La pintura y el estilo de Diego Velázquez
Palabras claves: tenebrismo, iluminación, barroco, animación.
Procedimientos :Recibiré a los estudiantes en la puerta y les daré la bienvenida, debido a que es muy provechoso crear un ambiente agradable y una buena comunicación con los estudianes, usaré un CD con el instrumental “Balada para Adelina” que ayudará a los estudiantes a sentirse cómodos y relajados. Usaré además, para ambientar el aula y para que los alumnos tengan a su disposición suficiente material de estudio,...
