Electricity is a form of energy involving the flow of electrons. Each and every one of us uses it in our daily lives. It was first gradually understood by Benjamin Franklin’s experiment with a kiteone stormy night in Philadelphia.

Electricity is matter, and all matter is made up of atoms. The atom contains a center called a nucleus. The nucleus contains positively charged atomscalled protons and uncharged atoms called neutrons. The nucleus is surrounded by negatively charged atoms called electrons. The amount of protons is equal to the number of electrons. If an outside forcegoes in contact with the balancing amount of protons and electrons, an atom may gain or lose an electron. If an electron gets lost from an atom, the free movement of the electrons transmits an electriccurrent.

We get electricity, which is a secondary source from the conversion of other sources of energy such as coal, natural gas, oil, nuclear power and other natural sources. These sourcesof energy are primary sources. A primary source is something that is an original source. Before the electricity generation began, houses were lit with kerosene lamps. Food was also cooled iniceboxes, and rooms were warmed by wood-burning or coal burning stoves.

There are also a few types of units used for measuring electricity. The ampere, also known as A is the SI unit of electriccurrent. It is also one of the seven SI base units. It was named after a French mathematician and physicist by the name of André-Marie Ampère. He was considered the father of electrodynamics. The volt,also known as V is the SI derived unit of electromotive force. It is commonly called voltage. It was named in honor of the Italian physicist Alessandro Volta. He invented the voltaic pile, possibly thefirst chemical battery.
