1) What we think of ourselves is what we will create for ourselves
2) Our communities mirror how we hold ourselves and our relations with others.
3) So, how aliveare we anyway?

How people make their living
Status/non-status members
How about the language of organization?
Whatsthe problem with these approaches to defining community to understanding community?
Answer: there is no life in them!
Building community is about creating structures and interactions that bring usand our fellow community members fully alive.
Interactions are actions between people
1) A customary way of operation or behavior
2) A series of elements that relate toone another in a consistent way
quality of community = sum (quality of its interactions)
There is a central quality which isthe root criterion of life and spirit in a man, town, a building, or a wilderness.
This quality is objective and precise, but it cannot be named.
‘’ the search we make for this quality, in our ownlives, is the central search of any person, and the crux of any individual person’s story.
Is is the search for those moments and situations when we are most alive.
