La Leyenda del Murciélago
(Leyenda tradicional mexicana - Oaxaca)
Cuenta la leyenda que el murciélago una vez fue el ave más bella de la Creación.
Legend has it that the bat was once the mostbeautiful bird of Creation.
El murciélago al principio era tal y como lo conocemos hoy y se llamaba biguidibela (biguidi = mariposa y bela = carne; el nombre venía a significar algo así como mariposadesnuda).
The bat was at first as we know it today and was called biguidibela (biguidi = butterfly and bela = flesh, the name came to mean something like butterfly naked).
Un día frío subió al cieloy le pidió plumas al creador, como había visto en otros animales que volaban. Pero el creador no tenía plumas, así que le recomendó bajar de nuevo a la tierra y pedir una pluma a cada ave. Y así lohizo el murciélago, eso sí, recurriendo solamente a las aves con plumas más vistosas y de más colores.
A cold day up to heaven and asked the creator feathers, as seen in other flying animals. But thecreator had no feathers, so he recommended dropping back to earth and ask for a pen to each bird. And he did the bat, yes, using only the most colorful bird feathers and more colors.
Cuando acabó surecorrido, el murciélago se había hecho con un gran número de plumas que envolvían su cuerpo.
