Gaga came to prominence following the release of her debut studio album The Fame(2008), which was critically praised and noted for its influences of synthpop music. Its first two singles, "Just Dance" and "Poker Face", were number-one singles and the album itself reached number one on nine record charts worldwide. Gaga embarked on the Fame Ball Tour in order to promote the album. Following it, Gaga released an extended play, The Fame Monster, which spawned internationalnumber-one singles "Bad Romance", "Telephone" and "Alejandro". In order to promote the album, Gaga embarked on the eighteen-month long Monster Ball Tour, which became one of the highest-grossing concert tours of all time. Her album Born This Way was later released, topping the charts on several major markets and spawning international chart-topping singles "Born This Way", "Judas" and "The Edge of Glory".Aside from being a recording artist, Gaga has also involved herself with humanitarian causes and LGBT activism.
Influenced by glam rock artists such as David Bowie and Queen, as well as dance-pop artists like Michael Jackson and Madonna, Gaga is among the best-selling music artists worldwide and the best-selling digital artists in the United States. Gaga has won many awards, including GrammyAwards and MTV awards, among others, as well as two consecutive appearances on Billboard magazine's Artists of the Year (scoring the definitive title in 2010); regular placements on lists composed by Forbes; and an appearance on the Time 100 list of the most influential people in the world.

Lady Gaga was born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta on March 28, 1986, in New York City.The first child of Cynthia (née Bissett) and Joseph Germanotta, an internet entrepreneur, Gaga – of Italian and more distant French-Canadian ancestry – has one sister called Natali who was born in 1992. Raised as a Roman Catholic left-handed Gaga began learning to play piano at the age of 4, went on to write her first piano ballad at 13, and started to perform at open mikenights by the age of 14.
