El mango es una fruta de la Zona Intertropical de pulpa carnosa y dulce, esta puede ser o no fibrosa. Es una fruta normalmente de color verde en unprincipio, y amarillo o naranja cuando está madura. De origen asiático, principalmente de la India, comprende numerosas variedades, muchas de ellasobtenidas por injerto. El sabor es muy diferente entre una variedad y otra.
Casi todas estas variedades de mango injerto se derivan de una variedadobtenida por evolución.
