Axle Housing, Axle Shaft, and Wheel Flange - Remove

Removal Procedure
Start By: A. Remove the axle fromthe machine. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Axle - Remove".
NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting andrepair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication,NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.1. Drain the oil from the axle. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Axle Oil (Rear) - Change".

Note: Put location marks on the axle housing, brake cylinderassemblies, and the center housing for assembly purposes. 2. Position suitable blocks under the axle in order to support the sections during removal. Attach a suitable lifting device onto the axle housing,axle shaft, and wheel flange. The weight of the axle housing, axle shaft, and wheel flange is approximately 147 kg (325 lb). Remove bolts (1) .
