ELEMENTOS DE LA GRAMÁTICA INGLESA 
EL SUSTANTIVO
El Género
El género de lossustantivos en inglés
puede ser determinado por:
a) UN SUFIJO (principalmente para indicar
el femenino), por ej.actor-actress (actoractriz), hero heroine (héroe-heroína);
aunque el cambio es por lo general del
masculino al femenino, ocurre lo contrario
en ciertas palabras, por ej. bridebridegroom (novia-novio―desposados),
widow-widower (viuda-viudo).
b) UN PREFIJO (para indicar el sexo de unsustantivo de género epiceno), por ej. hebear ― she-bear (oso-osa), male child
―female child (niño-niña).
En ciertos casos se emplean palabras
diferentes para designar la contraparte
femenina o masculina, por ej. boy-girl
(muchacho-muchacha), uncle-aunt (tíotía).
El plural
1. El plural regular se forma añadiendo una
s al sin-gular, por ej. girl-girls (muchacha-s),
boy-boys (mu-chacho-s),horse-horses
(caballo-s).
2. Los sustantivos que terminan en s, sh, ch,
x, z reciben es en el plural, por ej. gasgases (gas-es), brush-brushes (cepillo-s,
brocha-s), church-churches (iglesia-s), boxboxes (caja-s), topaz-topazes (topacio-s).
3. Algunos sustantivos que terminan en o
también reciben es en...
